Meet Upcoming Stars "Thandi And Samira"

Q: Can You please tell our readers your real names as well as your stage names?
A. We are Thandi & Samira. Our real names are Samira and Thandi

Q: How old are you girls?
A. Samira is 24 and Thandi is 28

Q: Where are you both from ?
A. Samira is from Bremen but was born in Berlin. Thandi was born in Berlin, raised in Cape Town, South Africa.

Q: At What age did you girls start making music?
A. Samira started making music at the age of 8 while Thandi started making music recently.

Q. How, when and where did you girls team up together to start making music?
A.We got together in the summer of 2015. We hung out in parks in Berlin to play guitar and sing. We had friends in common a lot of who are musicians, so it was a natural development that we got together to do the same.

Q: What genre of music would you classify yourselves? Jazz? Hip-Hop? RnB? etc
A. As Samira plays guitar and at the moment we are still experimenting and finding our sound. We cannot yet really define it. But we would say it is the direction of singer-songwriter with influences of different genres such as hip hop, reggae and soul.

Q: Name your favourite artists and why?.
A.There are probably too many to name, but of course we both love artists like Lauryn Hill, Rihanna, Beyonce because they are powerful woman with lyrical and musical genius.

Q: What are your hobbies?
A. Drinking lots of wine during rehearsals, Singing, dancing, and acting. When Samira has time she does hula hooping and she is also a graphic designer. Thandi does theatre and enjoys writing and watching plays.

Q: Did you girls write the lyrics and the music to your tracks?
A. Yes, both music and lyrics are from us.

Q: Where do you get your musical inspiration?
A. A lot of musical inspiration comes from Malian music, and different Reggae artists as well as the artists mentioned before. Lyrics are inspired by our lives and are a way of expressing the things that we experience and go through at different times. Our lyrics are also strongly inspired by strong women, especially feminist writers as our lives as black women inform our expression in our music.

Q: Who do you girls look up to?
A.We look up to artists who use their platform to talk about important issues. Also female artists like Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu or Nicky Minaj who have established themselves in a male dominated music industry. Also artists in our immediate surroundings who might not be well-known but who we have seen develop despite the struggle over the years for the love of what they are doing.

Q: If given a chance, which Artist would you girls love to perform with?
A. Tarrus Riley and Romain Virgo :D

Q. Feel free to tell our readers more about yourself and your music. Things like your goals in life, and what your current projects are?. And also let them know where they can get your music or where you will be performing soon or regularly……


A.Currently we are trying to further our project as a musical group together and hope that we will be able to keep doing music together and are now working on writing the songs for our first EP which we will update you about on our facebook page once it’s ready.
We will post our upcoming gigs on the same page and would love for you to come through Thandi also works in theatre and can be seen regularly in her & Amina Eisners` play entitled “Jung, giftig, und Schwarz” in Ballhaus Naunynstrasse in Berlin. She is currently writing a new play which is due to appear in 2017.
